i-Nov Competition: What Projects Will ADEME Submit?
After presenting the themes promoted by Bpifrance, in this second part I will outline the four themes identified by ADEME for this fourth round of the “i-Nov Innovation Competition ” (formerly the “Innovation–Growth Competition”).

As part of this competition and tosupport France’s energy and ecological transition, ADEME provides financial support for innovative projects aimed at developing products, services, and technologies that address energy and environmental challenges. Its goal is to support companies’ research efforts in order to achieve the objective of a low-carbon society adapted to climate change.
For this fourth round of the “ i-Nov Innovation Competition,"ADEME aims to support innovation projects that fall under one of the following themes:
- city in transition
- adaptation to climate change
- environmental performance of buildings
- circular economy.

ADEME Innovation Contest Theme: Cities in Transition
Within this theme, the innovations we are seeking are those related to:
- pooling, sharing, and optimizing resources, services, and spaces
- a better understanding of citizens' habits and preferences, and the identification of emerging trends
- offers and services that accelerate the environmental and energy transition.
In particular, we are looking for highly ambitious innovation projects that will create new products, goods, and services addressing the following challenges:
- mobility
- changes in public spaces
- data services and the use of geographic data of public interest.
Theme of the ADEME Innovation Competition: Adaptation to Climate Change
Through this call for proposals,ADEME aims to support projects that contribute to climate change adaptation—that is, projects that help reduce the impacts of climate change on safety and health, as well as on the property of individuals, businesses, and communities—and/or that help capitalize on the opportunities presented byclimate change. The selected projects may address chronic impacts and/or extreme weather events.
The innovations we are seeking are those related to:
- risk prevention
- the city and buildings
- the sea and the coastline
- the agricultural and forestry sectors.
ADEME Innovation Competition Theme: Environmental Performance of Buildings
This theme aims to support ambitious projects designed to create new products, goods, and services that address the challenges of:
- energy and environmental retrofitting of buildings
- lower construction and renovation costs, reduced claims
- the widespread adoption of BIM and the use of digital applications
- diversification of bio-based and geosynthetic resources and the development of innovative, high-performance materials
- improving the energy performance of building envelope equipment and components
- Integration of renewable energy in the building sector
- smart management of construction sites and buildings during their operational phase, particularly through their monitoring and control.
Theme of the ADEME Innovation Competition: Circular Economy
We are seeking proposals for the creation of new products, goods, and services that address, in particular, the following challenges:
- development of strategic sectors or those with high growth potential
- Development of the sorting centers of the future
- development of new recovery technologies
- improved rates of recycled material incorporation
- development of industrial processes to reduce material loss
- development of digital tools and applications
- modular, adaptable, and/or scalable structures or eco-friendly temporary infrastructure
- material exchange, reuse, and recycling streams
- planning, collection, management, and recycling of construction waste
