What is an Innovation Tax Credit (CII) approval?

In effect since 2013, the Innovation Tax Credit is a tax incentive designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to help boost their competitiveness by reducing the costs associated with innovation.
These companies are eligible for a tax credit equal to 20% of the expenses incurred in the design and/or production of prototypes or pilot facilities for a new product that offers superior technical performance, functionality, ergonomics, or eco-design compared to products currently available on the market. The eligible expenditure is capped at €400,000 per year per company.

Under the Innovation Tax Credit (CII) program, an SME that outsources the design of prototypes or pilot facilities for new products to another company may include these expenses in its CII tax base, provided that its subcontractor is CII-certified.

It is awarded following a review of the application, which must demonstrate that the subcontractor has the necessary human and material resources to successfully carry out the innovation work entrusted to it.
