Envisioning the nursing home bed of the future

WINNCARE

Winncare is a European group specializing in the design, manufacture, and distribution of medical devices for people with reduced mobility, as well as their caregivers and healthcare providers.

Meeting the sector's evolving needs

WinnCare has undertaken a strategic redesign of its hospital bed for nursing homes, with the aim of better meeting the actual needs of care facilities.

To this end, WinnCare conducted an in-depth study of the expectations and challenges faced by all stakeholders—caregivers, facility management, technical staff, and residents.

For nearly two years, Dynergie has supported WinnCare in this initiative using a human-centered design approach.

our response

A user-oriented and user-centered approach

The support provided by Dynergie focused on the following key areas:

1.Market research, competitive benchmarking, and qualitative interviews

2.Ideation workshopsand idea prioritization

3. Developingideas into testable concepts

4.Rapid prototypingand media creation

5.Market testingwith the target audience

6.Strategic Recommendationsand Roadmap

The results

In-depth analysis of actual pain points in the field

We identified the actual pain points faced by caregivers, residents, nursing home administrators, and technical staff in order to redesign the hospital bed based on real-world usage. This exploratory and immersive phase allowed us to prioritize the critical needs that are not met by current offerings.

Establishing a culture of user-centered design

We adopted a user-centered approach to guide the design process. By engaging internal and external stakeholders through workshops, the project helped establish new innovation practices at WinnCare.

Development of a unique concept, ready to be tested and promoted

Based on observations of usage patterns in nursing homes, the project led to the development of a new bed design incorporating practical improvements. This prototype served as the basis for initial field tests and is paving the way for a future large-scale rollout.

In conclusion.

By adopting a user-centered and co-design approach, WinnCare has reimagined the hospital bed as a powerful tool for enhancing residents’ well-being and improving caregivers’ performance. This project demonstrates that innovation, when rooted in real-world needs, can yield solutions that are both people-centered, functional, and sustainable.
